Session Information 2010

Session 1 - Salvation Planned (13 Feb 2010)

1A - We Were Chosen (Mark Mould)

Before the world was even created, God's plan of salvation was in place. We will explore the doctrine of election, showing that in salvation, all the glory goes to God, and considering the controversial issue of "free will".

1B - We Were Lost (Mark Heath)

Why did we need saving at all? In this talk we will look at the Genesis 2 account of the fall, and some of the ways the Bible describes the predicament of the human race - lost, fallen and dead.

Session 2 - Salvation Accomplished (20 Feb 2010)

2A - He Was Crucified (John Iyamu)

Why did Jesus have to die on the cross to save us? We will look at the doctrine of the atonement, and how Jesus died as our substitute to pay our penalty.

2B - He Was Raised (Mark Mould)

Jesus death and resurrection is more than a happy ending to a sad story, it is the fulfilment of what God had promised repeatedly to Israel through the prophets. We will see how the theme of death and resurrection run right through the Old Testament and how the New Testament writers interpret it in the light of Jesus.

Session 3 - Salvation Received (27 Feb 2010)

3A - We Were Awakened (Mark Mould)

When we become a Christian, God breathes new life into us as we are born again. We will look at the doctrine of regeneration - what God does to enable us to respond to the gospel.

3B - We Surrendered (Mark Heath)

Though God takes the initiative in our salvation, conversion is not passive. We will look at the vital place of repentance and faith, both at the moment of conversion and as ongoing realities in the life of the believer.

Session 4 - Salvation Worked Out (13 Mar 2010)

4A - We Are Changing (Tom Scrivens)

God hasn't finished his work in us once we become a Christian. There is a lifetime of sanctification. We will explore how the grace of God and the Spirit of God are key to us living in victory over sin.

4B - We are Following (Mark Heath)

Becoming a Christian is the start of a lifetime adventure of following Jesus. We will see how,  like Jesus, we too walk the way of the cross, as we live in the age of the "already but not yet".

Session 5 - Salvation Completed (20 Mar 2010)

5A - We Will Persevere (Mark Heath)

It's one thing to start well, but can we be sure we finish well, and does it matter? In this session we will consider some of the tricky theological issues around "once saved always saved", and the means that God uses to keep us close to himself right to the very end.

5B - We Will Be Glorified (Mark Mould)

The Bible predicts a day of judgment and a new creation. We will look at what will happen to those who have been saved on the judgment day in how we will be able to live in a perfect world without spoiling it all over again.
